Terms of service

Using the service means agreeing to these terms. We've tried to keep them readable — the parts most likely to matter to you are sections 4, 7 and 9.

1. The agreement

These terms form an agreement between you and YouTubeSummarizer covering your use of this website and service. If you're agreeing on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it.

2. What the service does

We generate summaries of publicly accessible YouTube videos from their transcripts. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to YouTube or Google LLC. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.

3. Your account

You can use the free tier without an account. If you create one, keep your credentials secure and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access. You're responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13, or the minimum digital consent age where you live, whichever is higher.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the service to infringe anyone's copyright or other rights.
• Republish generated summaries or transcripts as if they were your own original work, or in a way that substitutes for the original video.
• Attempt to access videos you aren't entitled to view.
• Circumvent rate limits, scrape the service, or resell access without a Team or API agreement.
• Upload or process content that is unlawful, or that you don't have the right to process.
• Interfere with the service's operation or security, or attempt to reverse engineer it beyond what applicable law permits.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach this section.

5. Content and ownership

Videos and transcripts belong to their creators. Summaries are derived works, and normal copyright and fair-dealing rules apply to what you do with them. Quoting a few takeaways with attribution and a link is generally reasonable; republishing a full transcript as your own content is not.

You keep any rights you have in material you supply. We keep ownership of the service, its software, and its branding. You get a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use it under these terms.

6. Plans, billing and cancellation

• Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled.
• You can cancel any time from your account settings.
• Monthly plans run to the end of the paid period. Yearly plans are refunded pro rata for unused whole months.
• Prices exclude any applicable tax, which is added at checkout.
• We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice before your next renewal. If you don't accept the change, cancel before it takes effect.

7. Accuracy, and what summaries are for

Summaries are produced automatically and will sometimes be incomplete, or wrong. They reflect what a video appears to say — not whether that is true. Automatic captions introduce their own errors, particularly with names and technical terms.

Every summary links back to the source so you can verify it, and you are responsible for doing so before relying on it. Do not use summaries as a sole basis for medical, legal, financial, or safety decisions.

8. Availability

We aim to keep the service running but don't guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we discontinue a paid service entirely, we'll give reasonable notice and refund any prepaid unused period.

The service depends on third-party platforms. If a platform changes how it works, some features may stop working through no fault of ours.

9. Disclaimers and liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data. Our total liability arising out of these terms is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 100 if you haven't paid us anything.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you're a consumer, you keep your statutory rights.

10. Indemnity

If you use the service in breach of section 4 and that causes a third-party claim against us, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of defending it.

11. Termination

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access for a material breach of these terms, giving notice and an opportunity to fix it where it's reasonable to do so. Sections 5, 9, 10 and 12 survive termination.

12. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you're a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the protection of your local mandatory law and may bring proceedings in your local courts.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be notified to account holders by email at least 30 days in advance. Continuing to use the service after that means accepting the updated terms.
